Nile Gardiner

Nile Gardiner is the Director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom and the Bernard and Barbara Lomas Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. Prior to joining Heritage, he served as Foreign Policy Researcher and aide to Lady Thatcher in her private office in London, supporting her on her final book, Statecraft: Strategies for a Changing World, and advising on a wide range of international issues. Having lived across four continents—Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America—he brings extensive global experience to his work.

An American and British dual citizen, Gardiner is a leading authority on the U.S.–UK Special Relationship, American and British foreign policy, and U.S. policy toward Europe. He has advised senior U.S. government officials on critical foreign policy challenges and has testified multiple times before the United States Congress. His policy analyses are widely respected on Capitol Hill, where he is frequently consulted on major national security and international affairs issues.

Gardiner regularly briefs political leaders and journalists worldwide and has served as a foreign policy advisor to three U.S. presidential candidates. He earned his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in History from Yale University, as well as a B.A. and M.A. in Modern History from Oxford University.

A familiar face in the media, Gardiner provides analysis for leading U.S. and international outlets, including Fox News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, Sky News, and more. His commentary has appeared in prominent publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Times, The New York Times, The Washington Times, National Review, and The London Telegraph, among others.

Gardiner is also co-author of Margaret Thatcher on Leadership: Lessons for American Conservatives Today (Regnery, 2013).
