Matthias Jørgensen
Matthias Jørgensen joined the European Commission in 1994 and worked in DG Environment from 1994-1999 on the Convention on Biodiversity and the Cartagena Biosafety Protocol. In 1999, he joined DG TRADE to work on relations with EU Member States and the launch of the WTO Doha Round and has since then dealt with a number of files in DG TRADE. From 2004-2008 he was posted in the EU Delegation in Argentina as head of the Trade, Political and Press sections.
From 2010 to 2020, he was deputy head of unit and then head of unit for EU trade relations with Latin America and was involved in the negotiation and implementation of various free trade agreements between the EU and Latin American countries. Since September 2020, he is the head of unit for EU trade relations with the US and Canada. He is currently the Acting Director in DG TRADE for the Americas, Agriculture and Food Safety. He holds a Masters in Law from the University of Copenhagen, a Masters in International Law from the University of Montpellier and a Masters in European Law from the College of Europe.
