Daniel Braun

Daniel Braun previously served as Chief of Cabinet for Ms. Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency. He led the team working on the European Democracy Action Plan (2020), the Defence of Democracy Package (2023), and steered the revision of the new Code of Practice on Disinformation (2022).

His portfolio also covered a human-centric and ethical approach to AI, as well as economic and monetary affairs. In his continuous efforts to tackle racism, xenophobia, and illegal hate speech, Mr. Braun was instrumental in initiating and conducting deliberations between the European Commission and major IT platforms, which resulted in the announcement of the Code of Conduct on Illegal Online Hate Speech in 2016.

Previously, Mr. Braun served as the First Deputy Minister of Regional Development, responsible for EU policy. He led the team preparing the strategy for European Funds in the 2014-2020 programming period in the Czech Republic. Simultaneously, he headed the Czech negotiation team with the European Commission. His tenure culminated when the Czech Partnership Agreement was adopted by the European Commission in August 2014.

Daniel Braun is a graduate of the University of Economics in Prague and the Central European University in Budapest.
