Andrius Kubilius
As Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius collaborates closely with the High Representative and Member States to strengthen European defence. His role focuses on ensuring that Europe not only increases its defence spending but also spends more effectively and prioritizes European capabilities. Simultaneously, he manages Europe’s space portfolio, recognizing the growing strategic importance of space and its connection to overall security and defence.
Kubilius is responsible for preparing the White Paper on the Future of European Defence, which aims to establish a new framework for defence and identify key investment priorities. He works with Member States to enhance military mobility by eliminating remaining obstacles and is driving the creation of a genuine Single Market for defence products and services, with particular attention to integrating SMEs into supply chains. He oversees the implementation of the European Defence Industrial Strategy and strengthens the European Defence Fund to support these efforts.
In addition, Kubilius addresses the EU’s vulnerabilities to cyber and hybrid threats, working to bolster resilience and countermeasures. He also contributes to deepening the EU-NATO partnership. On the space front, he leads initiatives to foster a competitive and innovative space industry, spearheads work on a future EU Space Law, and proposes a Space Data Economy Strategy. His portfolio includes ensuring the successful implementation of the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence.
